Wood Left Hand

What should I do? Two veins in the hand have burst in two days.?

My daughter called to tell me that her vein had busted in the middle of her pinkie on her left hand. She said she didn't catch it in anything, she just brushed it against some plastic.

That was yesterday, today she was closing the trunk of the car and when she let go of the rear door she had busted another vein in the same hand but now in the middle of the center finger.

Again, she didn't smash the fingers or put that much stress on them but two veins have burst in the same hand in the past two days.

She told me she had stepped on a small piece of wood and a splinter had entered her left foot, but that was about three or four days ago.

She is wondering if the splinter has anything to do with what is happening to her veins in her hand.

I honestly don't know, and we are going to the doctor on Monday, but if anyone can shed some light on the situation to ease her mind until then, I would be very grateful.

*Both fingers are now quite swollen and purple*

I have had that happen before, also. My doctor told me that it is normal because there is a lot of stress on the hands and fingers. But it is weird when you are just sitting there and feel a sharp pain and you didn't do anything.

One of the main veins in my wrist (think the blue ones that are clearly visible) broke at work one time and he told me it was the way I was using my mouse. I got a gel wrist support mouse pad and it helped a lot. But that about scared me to death - and they made me go to the emergency room (embarassing) and it hurt a lot, too. I also tend to break them in the palm side at the base of my middle finger. And, yes they swell up and turn purple for a while until your body absorbs the excess fluids.

The doctor also told me that the blood flow finds an alternate route. It may not be much to worry about, but it sure is weird. I am actually glad to hear that it happens to someone else!
