Golf shafts, Stiff or X-Stiff?

Do you play/tried X-Stiff?
What’s you swing speed? ball speed? head speed?
Do you like it?

I have tried X-stiff irons (X100 vs S300 Dynamic Gold ), honestly I can’t see much difference, maybe a little less distance.
I have swung X-drivers, with about the same result.
I have a head speed of about 104-108 mph, I am still playing my Gafalloy Prolaunch Blue, stiff.
I am not really thinking of switching, I am just interested in opinions on the subject.

My opinion is that most amateurs play drivers with shafts that are far to stiff, heads that have far too little loft and they tend to wildly overestimate their swing speed and driving distance.

90% of amateurs should play heads with AT LEAST 10.5* of loft or greater and shafts that are in the Regular range from most major manufacturers.

I was recently giving lessons to a golfer in his 60's who was playing with a Sonartec 13* 3-wood with an extra stiff shaft and an 8* Callaway ERC with a Tour Stiff shaft. He wanted to know why he hit his irons so well but couldn't get off the tee at all?!

(The "pro" at a golf shop had recommended these clubs to him because they were the hottest thing on tour at the time....)

I watched him hit his 7 iron, then his 5....both of which he hit solid with a slight draw, 130 with the 7, roughly 150 with the 5. (They were Big Bertha irons with the memphis 10 shaft)

He then pulled out his 3 wood and proceeded to hit worm burners and weak 100 yard slices....I told him to hit his driver....same deal....

I sent him to Ebay and had him buy a Taylor 10.5* Draw driver with a regular shaft and he picked up a three wood with 17* of loft and a regular shaft....

Can you guess what happened??

He shot the best round of his life the very next week...an 84....he hadn't broken 90 in 6 years!!!

so my recommendation to you is....be realistic about who you are and what your game is about. If you needed an extra stiff shaft there's a good bet you wouldn't need to ask us about it...I've only know 2 people in my life who NEEDED extra stiff driver shafts. Both could fly their drivers over 300 yards, and they also both had fast, handsy swings.
