Blue Dot Irons

mineral makeup CONCERNS!!!!!?

i'm using a mineral makeup product called 'nude' by nature. (please dont recommend products to me, this is the easiest for me to get) because im a makeup safety freak and am really concerned with what i put on my skin and want to put good stuff on it seeing as im still young (16)
I just want to know if the following ingredients that are in the product are actually good/beneficial or bad.

*Mica
*Zinc oxide
*Titanium Dioxide
*Magnesium Stearate
*Kaolin (Australian Organic Clay)
*Iron oxides
*ultramarine Blue

ps. what does it mean when you have heaps of little dots on your skin around eyes/cheeks they look like someone has got a tiny needle and poked my face with it? (when u look closely)

The dots you describe are probably just pores (sebaceous glands) on your face. You should see them on your nose as well. Everyone has them, and they are only a problem when they become infected and form pimples.

As for the ingredients, I don't think any are particularly beneficial or harmful. Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide will both block UV light, so they can help protect the skin from sun damage.

Magnesium stearate (along with calcium stearate) is a major component of soap scum and is also used in food - it's pretty safe.

The iron oxides (probably Fe2O3 with some oxide/hydroxide minerals as well) and ultramarine are there for coloring. Iron oxides are used to color Advil tablets and other medications - ferric iron is not absorbed well by the body, so these pose no harm. An MSDS for ultramarine claims that it can irritate the skin. The amounts used are probably too small for this to be significant, but if the product irritates your skin, this may be the cause.

Kaolin is also fairly inert and was used in the antidiarrheal medicine Kaopectate. It is actually a raw material for the manufacture of ultramarine. It is one of the most common clays (the main component of "china"), and I would not expect it to pose much of a hazard.

Of course, the safety of natural materials also depends upon the impurities present - some talc contains small amounts of asbestos, for example (I don't think this stuff can be used in cosmetics). It is possible, but unlikely, that these ingredients could similarly be contaminated with something more hazardous.
