This is my first time to attend, and we are here in hawaii
There are fewer rules these days. You'll see women wearing a variety of garments. Just wear a very pretty cocktail dress and you won't go wrong.
One thing I would advise, and I'm a former army officer's wife, is not to draw negative attention to yourself. Go for classy rather than sexy. Don't be the girl at the ball that everyone is pointing fingers at and giggling over. These are the girls with the cleavage down to there and the backless dresses that practically show their cracks.
Look glamorous, but cover up a bit. A little cleavage is okay. Your boyfriend will still find you sexy, but his commanding officer's wife will not, which is a very good thing for his career.
